Closing-Time Care for Your Sport Clips Branded Shears Set
A closing routine for your Branded Shears - Sport Clips set: wipe the blades, oil the pivot, and store both shears in the case, with a tension check if your cutting feel changes.

Wipe down both shears before anything else
Your Sport Clips set includes a 6-inch cutting shear, a 32T thinning shear, and a Sport Clips shear case. That means your closing routine covers two shears and the case that holds them.
Over a shift, hair, styling product, moisture, and disinfectant residue can build up around the blades and pivot. Wipe your shears down when you finish working. Doing so protects the finish and helps the blades move smoothly.
Oil the pivot, then read the tension
Once the blades are clean, put a small amount of oil at the pivot and open and close the shear to work it through. Regular pivot oiling reduces friction and makes your tension checks more accurate, especially after you have cleaned or disinfected the shear.
If you're going to check tension, clear any loose hair and product from the pivot first, add a small amount of shear oil, and only then judge how the shear feels. Tension is the pressure that holds the blades together as they close. Cleaning and oiling the pivot first can help you judge that feel more consistently.
- Open the shear and raise one handle.
- Let the blade close naturally.
- Watch the motion: it should neither slam shut nor stay wide open.
- If you adjust, make small changes and retest after each one.
- Before you return to client work, test on clean hair or a test fiber.
Recognize when tension needs attention
Inconsistent cuts, hair that gets pulled or grabbed near the tip, and a hand that has to work harder to close the blade are all good prompts to check tension. Tension that is too loose can let hair fold or push. Tension that is too tight can leave the shear feeling heavy, rough, or tiring, or make it seem dull even when the edge is still usable.
Adjust gradually, and stop if the shear feels rough or forced. Also stop if the screw, ride line, or blade feels damaged. If your adjustments don't end the folding, pushing, pulling, or rough cutting, send the shears for service rather than continuing to work on them yourself.
Put the set away so the edges stay protected
Store your shears in a case or protected holder instead of loose in a drawer or bag, so the blades and tips don't touch other tools. The Sport Clips case keeps the pair together, which gives your cutting shear and thinning shear one place to go at the end of the day.
A nick from a drawer, a counter, or a dropped tool can change how a shear cuts, which is a good reason to put them away promptly. Keep your hair shears for hair only. Using them on paper, tags, thread, or packaging can dull or damage the edge quickly.
Make it part of your closing routine
At the end of work, wipe both shears and put them back in the Sport Clips case so the pair stays together. Keep pivot oiling regular, particularly after you clean or disinfect the shears. If your cutting feel changes, such as hair folding, pushing, or pulling, the shear grabbing near the tip, or your hand working harder to close it, that's your cue to check tension as described above.
