Your End-of-Shift Shear Care: Wipe, Oil the Pivot, and Store Safely
Learn a simple end-of-shift routine for your hair shears: wipe them down, add a small amount of Shear Oil at the pivot, work it in by opening and closing, then store them protected.

Start by wiping your shears down
After you use your shears, wipe them down. This helps protect the finish and helps the blades move smoothly, so it is a good habit to build into the end of your shift.
Hair, styling product, moisture, and disinfectant residue can collect around the blades and the pivot. Wiping the blades clean gives you a clean tool to oil in the next step.
Oil the pivot and work it in
Once your shears are clean, apply a small amount of oil at the pivot. Shear Oil comes in a 1/4 oz dropper vial of 100% natural Camellia scissor oil, so you can add a few drops right where you want them.
Next, open and close the blades so the oil works through the pivot.
A small amount of oil at the pivot helps your blades move cleanly and reduces unnecessary friction. It also helps make your tension checks more accurate. Shears that work every day benefit from regular pivot oiling, especially after you clean or disinfect them.
Store your shears in a protected holder
When you finish, put your shears in a case, wallet, or other protected holder. Avoid tossing them loose into a drawer or bag. A protective holder keeps the blades and tips from touching your other tools.
Keep your hair shears for hair only. Paper, tags, thread, and packaging do not belong under their blades.
