Your End-of-Shift Shear Routine, From Wipe-Down to Shear Case
Wipe and dry your shears, oil the pivot, close the blades, and put them in the Shear Case before you pack your kit. Here is how to run that routine at the end of a shift.

Start by clearing the day's residue from your shears
Hair, styling product, moisture, and disinfectant can all collect around the blades and the pivot while you work. At the end of a shift, wipe your shears and dry them before they go anywhere near your kit.
Wiping after use protects the finish and helps the blades move smoothly, which makes it a worthwhile step to finish before you pack up.
Oil the pivot and work it in
Apply a small amount of oil at the pivot, then open and close your shears so the oil works through it. Pivot oiling is recommended for shears you use every day, especially after you've cleaned or disinfected them.
Oil also helps make a tension check more accurate if you do one.
Close the blades and give them a place in your kit
- Wipe and dry your shears.
- Oil the pivot and open and close the shears to work the oil through.
- Close the blades.
- Place your tools in the Shear Case before you pack the rest of your kit.
The Shear Case is a textured black case that gives your closed tools a dedicated place in your kit instead of leaving them loose in a bag. It keeps your shears together in transport and reduces contact with loose combs, clips, and other gear. It is intended for moving shears between home, school, and salon.
The same principle applies to any storage: keep shears in a case or protected holder rather than tossing them into a drawer or bag, so the blades and tips stay clear of other tools. If fit matters to you, check the case dimensions against your own tools.
Keep your hair shears for hair
Use your hair shears only on hair. Paper, tags, thread, packaging, and fabric can dull or damage a hair shear edge quickly.
When you're ready to give your closed shears a dedicated spot in your bag, view the Shear Case.
