How to Clean, Oil, and Store Your 9CR 7.0 Professional Cutting Shear After a Shift

Wipe the shear down, oil the pivot, know when to check tension, and store it protected. Here is how you can handle your 9CR 7.0 Professional Cutting Shear at the end of a shift.

9CR 7.0 Professional Cutting Shear

Wipe your shear down once the last client leaves

Your 9CR 7.0 Professional Cutting Shear is a 7-inch cutting shear, and the handle is offered in left- or right-handed versions. The routine below is general professional hair-shear care, so you can apply it to this shear at the end of each shift.

Hair, styling product, moisture and disinfectant can all collect around the blades and the pivot while you work. Wiping the whole shear down after use is your first step. It protects the finish and helps the blades keep moving smoothly.

Oil the pivot and work it through

Once the shear is wiped down, put a small amount of oil at the pivot. Then open and close the shear so the oil moves through the pivot.

Shears that you use every day benefit from regular pivot oiling, especially after you have cleaned or disinfected them. Oil also makes a tension check more accurate, so oil the pivot before you judge how the shear feels.

Know what should prompt you to check tension

Pay attention to how your shear feels and cuts. Any of these signs is a good reason to check the tension:

  • The shear feels different in your hand than it did before.
  • Your cutting has become inconsistent.
  • The shear pulls or grabs hair near the tip.
  • Your hand is working harder to close the blades.

Before you test anything, clear loose hair and product from the pivot and add a small amount of shear oil. Then open the shear, raise one handle and let the blades close on their own. If the tension is right, the shear neither slams shut nor hangs wide open.

Adjust in small steps and know when to stop

If you decide to adjust, make small changes and retest after each one. Before the shear goes back to client work, try it on clean hair or a test fiber.

Stop if the screw, the ride line or a blade feels damaged. If your adjustment does not end the folding, pushing, pulling or rough cutting, send the shear for service instead of continuing to work on it yourself.

Store your shear where the blades stay protected

Put your shear in a case or another protected holder when the shift ends. A wallet is also an option. Whichever you choose, the blades and tips should not touch your other tools, and you should not toss the shear loose into a drawer or bag.

Keep your hair shear for hair only. Using it on paper, tags, thread or packaging can dull or damage the edge.

Your end-of-shift routine at a glance

  • Wipe the whole shear down.
  • Add a small amount of oil at the pivot and open and close the shear to work it in.
  • Check tension if the feel or cutting changes, oiling the pivot first.
  • Store the shear in a case or protected holder away from other tools.
